How We Work Together to Achieve Supernatural Results

the design process shouldn't be scary

We’ve found that it’s easier to handle large projects by breaking them down into smaller chunks, where we can arrange touchpoints with the client to ensure that we’re on track. Working like this allows us a little more agility in the design process, optimizing our time and saving the client money as we can course-correct on our feet. The Noisy Ghost mascot, Bedlam, helps us illustrate how it works.

Buying a Ready-Made Design
Step 1

start the process by reserving a website design from our shop

A cloud of bats hurries to send your request to us, and we reach out to you to welcome you to our growing, creepy family. Your design is reserved for you alone, and held for 72 hours from the time you make your request: in that window, we send those bats back with a purchase link and details for booking. Once you buy your website design, it’s no longer available to anyone else, and the purchase price is non-refundable.

Step 2

we'll arrange a seance with you to discuss your site’s design

We build a quick write up of the work we're about to do for you and outline any adjustments to the ready-made design. We also send you the requirements for the things we need to complete your website: your hi-resolution book cover images, author photo, and resources like your chapter sample or press kit, and website copy. We agree on delivery dates, and set up the work schedule so you know when your site will be ready for launch.

Step 3

you have a nice cup of cocoa while noisy ghost gets to work finalizing the design with your content

We gather everything you’ve sent us to complete your website, and integrate any adjustments you’ve requested. We load in all your content, images, and copy, and provide you with a proof to make sure everything looks good. Don’t forget to spellcheck one last time! If you find anything that needs a tweak, we fix’er up and send you the art approval.

Step 4

you've made your final payment, and it's time to hit the big green button!

Well, if there was a "big green button" we'd be mashing it as soon as your final balance payment clears. We upload everything to your site, run a quick check for quality assurance to make sure everything works as it should, and we yank the cord on the curtain for the big reveal. That's it! You're live! We applaud each other for our hard work, and celebrate our accomplishment.

Commissioning a Tailor-Made Design
Step 1

start the process by choosing a skeleton website that best reflects what you want your website to do

Select your Tailor-Made website design by requesting a skeleton design from our shop. A cloud of bats hurries to send your request to us, and we reach out to you to welcome you to our growing, creepy family. To reserve your design, you’ll need a quote for the visual design work we’re about to do, and we need to know what you’ve got in mind, so…

Step 2

we'll arrange a seance with you to discuss your site’s design

We build a quick write up of the work we're about to do for you and outline any adjustments, providing a quote for the visual design work. We tailor the estimate based on your request, because everyone is different. We agree on delivery dates, and set up the work schedule so you know when your site will be ready for launch, and request 50% of the total estimate up front before any design work begins.

Step 3

you have a nice cup of cocoa while we work on the design concept

We take our design brief and start the hustle: we build moodboards, sample typography, and start sketching. We present these rough ideas to you, and gather feedback on what works so we can start refining the mockups. We also send you the requirements for the things we need to complete your website: your hi-resolution book cover images, author photo, and resources like your chapter sample or press kit, and website copy.

Step 4

we create mockups by adding the meat to the skeleton website

We gather everything you’ve sent us to complete your website’s visual design, and integrate any adjustments you’ve requested in your brief. We load in all your content, images, and copy, and provide you with a proof to make sure everything looks good. We show you the work we've done, sending mockups, photos, or screenshots for you to approve. Don’t forget to spellcheck your copy!

Step 5

we make any last adjustments and request final payment from you

We tweak the design according to your feedback, and send you the final art for approval. Once you give us the green light, we optimize all images, adjust your SEO copy, tweak the CSS styles, and send you a link with a demo of the site for review on our servers. Final touches are made, and we send you a bill with the balance for the work before we upload everything to your new home on the web.

Step 6

you've made your final payment, and it's time to hit the big green button!

Contracting Noisy Ghost for a Bespoke Design
Step 1

start the process by filling out the get-a-quote form on our website

We want to get a better sense of the work you're looking for, where you're coming from, and what you want to accomplish with the design. We ask you questions about how you see the project and how you'll measure a successful design. From there, we schedule a follow-up interview to fill in the details so we can give you as accurate an estimate as possible.

Step 2

we agree on a design brief, and we schedule your design time

We build a quick write up of the work we're about to do for you and outline any adjustments. The brief includes functionality requirements, info about your brand and its guidelines, your preferences for style and artwork, and a quick assessment of your competitors so we can ensure you remain unique in your message and presentation. We also send along a quote for you to approve, and request 50% of the total estimate.

Step 3

you have a nice cup of cocoa while we work on the design concept

We take our design brief and start the hustle: we build moodboards, sample typography, and start sketching out the rough ideas of the things you've told us you like. (All of this depends on the type of project, of course: we also start drawing up wireframes and putting together style guides if you've contracted us to build a website.) We present these rough ideas to you, and gather feedback on what works so we can start refining the mockups.

Step 4

we create mockups for the artwork, then collect your feedback

We show you the work we've done, sending mockups, photos, screenshots, or prototypes as you requested in your design brief. We load in all your content, images, and copy, and provide you with a proof to make sure everything looks good. Don’t forget to spellcheck your copy!

Step 5

we make any last adjustments and request final payment from you

We tweak the design according to your feedback, and send you the final art for approval. If you’ve comissioned a website, we optimize all images, adjust your SEO copy, tweak the CSS styles, and send you a link with a demo of the site for review on our servers once you give us the green light. Final touches are made, and we send you a bill with the balance for the work before we upload everything to your new home on the web.

Step 6

you've made your final payment, and it's time to hit the big green button!

A Few Things You May Want to Know

frequently asked questions

What’s included in a Tailor-Made website?

Full pricing for a Tailor-Made website includes the pre-built wireframes and website structure, the WordPress integration, and the Visual Design time. In each site design, we always prepare SEO-ready formats, optimize your images, and provide responsive design for mobile and tablet.

The following items are NOT included in the total cost: copywriting, additional downloadable item design (i.e. PDFs of media kits and author biographies, as these are supplemental items that must be provided by the client), photography, newsletter design, blog post development, social media graphics. All of the aforementioned, with the exception of website copywriting, can be added as an add-on to your design time for a nominal fee. Do about it when filling out your quote, because oftentimes we can discount the costs of supplemental add-ons that fit within the scope of the brand when we’ve already built the resources for your site. (We’re practical like that.)

Why is it called a “skeleton” website?

We refer to our Tailor-Made websites as “Skeleton Websites” because they already have the bones in place: the wireframes, which refers to the overall structure of the website, and the WordPress integration. When we talk about the “visual design” or the “graphic design”, we’re adding meat to the skeleton: the tone, the texture, the images, the photography, the book covers — all the visual aspects of your author brand and presentation.

How much is the reservation fee for a Tailor-Made website?

Our Tailor-Made websites are offered as one-off services, wherein we have calculated the costs for the visual design for each Tailor-Made site and included it in the total cost. We do not accept retainers or deposits for Tailor-Made sites, as the total amount for the website must be paid in full prior to starting any visual design work. Please advise that once a reservation payment is made, it is non-refundable.

If you require more flexibility with your billing options, please don’t hesitate to ask. We accommodate different needs and use cases with our Bespoke website offerings too.

How do I reserve design time for a Tailor-Made website?

Fill out the associated quote with the design(s) you want, and we’ll contact you about your options, reservation, and payment schedule to set your design time up. Let us know if you’re thinking of combining Tailor-Made projects (for example, a primary author-branded site for you, and several Book Landing Page style microsite for your books), and we’ll be happy to work out the details for you.

Can I request changes to a Tailor-Made site’s UI?

Yes! We built our Tailor-Made sites so that it would be super fast to swap page elements and add new things in — like video book trailers, or different cover artwork, or image galleries, or your reference material, or pictures of your werewolf.

We can add pages, swap pages, take pages away, flip the order, add a microsite for your book’s characters — the sky’s the limit. Just let us know in advance what you’re dreaming of and we’ll be happy to figure out a solution. Some things take a bit more work than others, so we can discuss your ideas and see if it fits into the scope of a Tailor-Made site. (For really complex stuff, we might suggest looking at Bespoke options. The easiest way to get an answer as to whether something’s viable is to ask the question.)

When I buy a Tailor-Made website, do I own the design?

Noisy Ghost Co. retains the rights to the preliminary works and working files, the original artwork, design tools, and reserves the right to use all mockups, sketches, wireframes, and drafts in promotional, portfolio, or as career furthering uses, unless otherwise agreed upon in advance of starting any design work with a client and in written agreement at the time of signing. Liquidation Rights may be arranged in advance of starting any design work for a percentage of the total cost of any works completed.

Third party materials used in the creation of a design by Noisy Ghost Co. for any client remains the property of the Third Party.

How long do I have to submit my website copy to you for inclusion on my website?

The deadline for you to provide your website copy to us for inclusion is one week prior to your reservation’s start date. We provide our clients with copywriting guidelines at the time of signing, and ample wiggle room to get it done on time. Granted, we understand that writing website copy is rarely an exact science, and we expect that revision is part of the build and approval process,. We do, however, require an as-close-to-complete draft to work with at the onset.

What do I need to know before I reserve a website design?

There are a few things you’re going to need to consider before reserving a website design, and we can help you out with a lot of these things along the way:

  1. Do you have a web hosting provider and domain registered for your site? We recommend SiteGround because they are ah-may-zing.
  2. Are you prepared to write your website copy?
  3. Do you have a gorgeous hi-resolution headshot?
  4. Do you have your hi-resolution book covers (front and back and spine)? All of them?
  5. Do you need to put together your media kit?
  6. Are your free chapter samples polished?
  7. Do you have an existing blog that needs to be transferred to your new home?
  8. Have you filled out our author brand questionnaire?
  9. Have you looked at your competition and analyzed what they’re up to with their marketing?
  10. Do you need a cookie? What about a logo?
  11. Are your social media platforms up to snuff? Do you want matching graphics for everything?
  12. Do you need advertising graphics for any super secret upcoming projects?
  13. Are you intimidated yet? Don’t be afraid. You’ve got this and we’ve got your back.
What’s not included in the package price of a Tailor-Made site?

All applicable taxes, third-party service fees (i.e. PayPal, web hosting, domain registration fees, etc.), and supplemental charges for stock, type, and operational resources (i.e. supplemental WordPress plugins requested by the client or supplemental typography licensing outside of the Google Fonts catalogue, for example) are not included in the purchase price for our Tailor-Made sites.
